As a solution focused hypnotherapist one the most important element of this role is to help educate those that come to me for help, on why the brain works the way that it does and what we can do to help ourselves.
From the outset, I explain that how we think is a lot of the time how we end up feeling. The reason for this is that within our brains, we have the chemistry to produce feel good chemicals or feel bad chemicals. Obviously, it isn’t just as simple as this otherwise we would all be thinking happy thoughts, then feeling joy in our lives. But most of us can give ourselves a few moments to sit and reflect on a happy memory and notice that the memory gives us a joyful more positive feeling.
For many, Christmas can be a happy place and space, as many memories of a joyful childhood are recreated every year in a bubble of goodwill and kindness. But equally for some it can represent overwhelm, too much to do or sadly for some, memories associated that are not so kind. But either way, we can see that how we think about something affects us. This is where Hypnotherapy comes in, as it offers someone a chance to identify a negative thought, and its associated negative feeling and look to reframe this. When we change this thought to how you want to think and feel, we thereby replace the negative feelings with something more positive.
I liken the process to walking into bar and choosing whether to order from the spirit optics a glass of joy chemicals or going to the other end and ordering a glass of feeling miserable. When you can take a step back and see what thoughts are doing the ordering, you then get to choose what you would like to feel.
So, if you are struggling to feel joy in your life, why not try Hypnotherapy and see if the process can work for you and change how you feel.
